Humble Beginnings
Northstar was founded in July 2004 by Jon Townsend, who started with a vision and a condensing unit in the back of his wife’s minivan.
Who knew this was the start of what would become a trusted name in the HVAC/R industry.

Planting Roots
As demand for our services grew, so did our team. We proudly moved to our current headquarters at 95 Camelot Drive in Plymouth, MA.
During this crucial period, we expanded our team of skilled technicians, who brought enhanced capabilities to service clients across the South Shore and the Greater Boston area.

2014
Industrial Evolution
With the addition of Jon’s son, Travis, Northstar launched a dedicated Refrigeration division, focusing on industrial service, repair, and design engineering.
The company became a key player in the Northeast, partnering with customers in food processing, cold storage, manufacturing, and more.

Scaling Up
To meet the increasing demand for quality service, we doubled our office and warehouse space and continued hiring talented staff.
Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, our commitment to supporting essential industries never wavered. We prioritized safety and reliability, ensuring our customers could count on us during critical times.

Expanded Offices for Team Growth
As our team continued to grow, so did the need for dedicated space. We leased an additional 2,000 square feet of office space within our industrial park to support the expansion of our Sales, Marketing, and Engineering departments.

As President of Northstar Refrigeration, Travis Townsend brings over two decades of industry experience and a deep commitment to building lasting relationships with customers, partners, and team members alike.
Travis takes a hands-on, customer-first approach- ensuring every system is designed and serviced with precision, transparency, and a deep understanding of each facility’s unique needs.
Since co-founding Northstar Refrigeration with his father in 2014, Travis has played a pivotal role in growing the company into one of the leading HVAC/R firms in the Northeast. He proudly leads a team that shares his passion for quality, innovation, and doing the job right.
With over 30 years of hands-on experience in the HVAC/R industry, Jon Townsend founded Northstar Mechanical, Inc. in 2004 with a clear mission: to deliver efficient, high-quality HVAC solutions for commercial facilities across New England.
As the company grew, so did customer demand, and Jon expanded services to include industrial refrigeration, laying the groundwork for even greater impact.
In 2014, Jon partnered with his son Travis to launch Northstar Refrigeration, Inc., bringing their shared vision to life in the industrial space. In 2021, the two companies merged, combining decades of expertise in commercial and industrial HVAC/R to form.
